Dear Sunshine Families and Staff,
We have just learned that a parent of one of our students has tested positive for COVID-19. The parent is currently fever free and is in home quarantine. No one else in the household is experiencing any symptoms. The parent hasn’t been in the building since March 12th and the child was last in the building March 17th. Although it was for a completely different reason, you’ll also remember that we disinfected the entire building on March 18th. Our very best wishes go out to this family and we hope for a speedy and complete recovery.
We have spoken with DOH and New York State Office of Child and Family Service and given (1)that it’s been over 2 weeks since the parent was in the building, (2)that it’s been almost two weeks since the child was in the building, (2) that the child is not exhibiting any symptoms, (4)our stringent daily disinfection procedures, and (5)our complete disinfection on March 18th, the DOH did not recommend any action. However, we will go beyond the DOH guidance and exclude from the building any staff and/or children that had close contact with the child in question for a period of two weeks since the last contact.
Again, none of the staff have tested positive and none of the students have tested positive. However, a parent of one of our students has tested positive.
We have separately notified the parents of the children that were in the room with the student as well as the staff who were in the room.
Please join me in wishing the parent a speedy and complete recovery.
